This is Douglas Dunn's piece, "Zorn's Lemma." The first thing that immediately captured my attention was the costumes. They were very bright and funky. I feel like this choreography has a very "childlike" feel to it. The music is especially techno, which wraps the choreography and costumes all together. This is a prime example of how Dunn tends to put on a show.

Review:

I can definitely see the child-like quality in Zorn's Lemma! I find it intriguing how he uses electronic music (which is synthetic) and bright colorful costumes (also convey synthetic), but the movement seems to be rather fluid and natural. For instance, if Cunningham's chance choreography was applied to this piece, it would complete the synthetic image. Instead, his dancers seem carefree and lively as they fleetingly move across the stage. I'd say this quality is very cohesive with his quote on why he dances. He seems like an extremely innovative and unique choreographer.
ReplyDeleteThe video reminded me of when I was a little girl and would go to see the circus. All the childlike movement and bright colors remind me of the circus. He seems as if he is not afraid to show his audience something different and new.
